We've been growing microgreens up here in the Blue Mountains for a while now, and the question we hear most is: "How do I start growing them at home?"

So we put together a kit that answers that question properly — not with a pamphlet and a prayer, but with genuinely everything you need to go from zero to your first harvest in about a week.

What's in the Kit

The Starter Growing Kit includes:

  • Growing tray base — catches water runoff and keeps things tidy
  • Perforated tray — where your seeds actually grow, with drainage so roots stay healthy
  • Lid tray — doubles as a blackout cover and a weight during the early growth phase
  • Natural coir growing medium — sustainable, clean, and ready to use
  • Seeds for 2 full trays — you pick the varieties you want to grow
  • Nutrient solution — gives your greens a boost without any fuss
  • Full instructions — step by step, with tips we've learned from doing this every day

That last point matters. We didn't just copy a generic guide off the internet. The instructions are based on what actually works in Australian conditions, written by people who grow these varieties daily.

Pick Your Own Seeds

When you order a kit, you choose which seed varieties to include. We have a growing range available — from mild and versatile broccoli to peppery radish varieties, hearty pea shoots, crunchy sunflower, and more.

Not sure what to pick? Here are a few good starting points:

  • Broccoli — mild flavour, quick to grow, packed with sulforaphane. A great first grow.
  • Pea Shoots — big, sweet, and satisfying. Kids love them too.
  • Purple Radish — beautiful colour, spicy kick, and surprisingly easy.

You can mix and match — there's no wrong answer. Each variety comes with its own growing times so you know exactly what to expect.

Who Is This For?

Honestly? Anyone who eats food. But particularly:

  • People who want to grow something at home but don't have a garden (or the time for one)
  • Families who want their kids to see where food comes from
  • Anyone curious about microgreens but unsure where to start
  • Health-conscious folks who want the freshest possible greens — harvested minutes before eating

You don't need a green thumb. You don't need outdoor space. A kitchen bench or windowsill is all it takes.

From Seed to Plate in 7–14 Days

Most varieties are ready to harvest within one to two weeks. The process is straightforward:

  1. Spread seeds on the moistened growing medium
  2. Cover with the lid tray for a few days (the blackout phase)
  3. Uncover and place in indirect light
  4. Mist daily and watch them grow
  5. Harvest with scissors when they're ready

The full instructions walk you through each step with the specific timing for whichever varieties you've chosen. No guesswork required.

Why Microgreens?

If you're new to microgreens, here's the short version: they're young vegetable seedlings harvested early, and research has shown they can contain up to 40 times more nutrients than the mature plant. They're flavourful, versatile, and genuinely one of the easiest things you can grow.

We use them in everything — salads, sandwiches, stir-fries, smoothies, and just as a handful straight off the tray when no one's looking.
